Cal Poly and University Housing are committed to providing housing to as many new students as possible, however, on-campus housing fills quickly based on the variance in numbers of new students admitted each year. On-campus housing space is limited and cannot be guaranteed to any class level, including freshmen. University Housing operates on a first-come, first-served basis as space and demand allow, so keep an eye on dates and schedules at www.housing.calpoly.edu.

To secure a space in on-campus housing, students need to have their "admissions acceptance" on record with Cal Poly Admissions. The "admissions acceptance" can be accessed via the "Accept/Decline" link on the student's portal account and is required to initiate the housing application process.

As on-campus housing space is limited, Student Housing License Agreements and payments are accepted on a "first-come, first-served basis." Payments and License Agreements received after all spaces are filled will be returned.

Housing Administration takes into account projected cancellations; therefore we do not maintain a waiting list for on-campus housing.

Please note: On-campus spaces for Freshman Housing may be either double or triple (2-3 students in a room) in Residence Halls or private in apartments. All Freshmen living on campus are required to have a mandatory dining plan whether assigned to apartments or Residence Halls.

  • Eligibility for On-Campus Housing
Students who have accepted their admission to Cal Poly are eligible to apply to live on-campus on a first-come, first-served basis as space and demand allow.

  • Housing Application
  • Students who have accepted their admission to Cal Poly can access the online Housing application by entering through the Cal Poly portal (my.calpoly.edu) using their Cal Poly portal user name and password provided by Cal Poly Admissions. Students select the "Housing" tab, then click on "Housing Application System" and follow the instructions provided to submit their Housing application online. Applications are not available prior to posted application date. For Application details regarding your specific application period, click here.

  • Financial Aid Information
Students who have applied for Financial Aid can mark "Financial Aid" as the payment method on their Student Housing License Agreement. By choosing this payment option, housing and dining plan payments may be paid directly by Financial Aid. If the student's award falls below the amount needed, the Student Accounts office will notify the student of any additional fees due. For more information visit the Financial Aid website. Financial Aid Students are encouraged to return their completed "Student Housing License Agreement" as soon as possible.

  • Application Edits
Edits to your housing application do not change your initial application date. For last date to edit your application, please refer to the "Deadline Dates Checklist" for the quarter to which you are applying.
  • Transfer Students
On-campus housing for transfer students is available on a first-come, first-served limited basis. Transfer students unable to live on campus are encouraged to make off-campus housing arrangements with one of our "Community Partners."

What to do if you are unable to secure on-campus housing
Freshmen are advised to contact Stenner Glen, one of our Off-Campus Community Partners (Stenner Glen is a privately owned residence hall facility that offers a room and board plan).

Freshmen, returning, and transfer students who do not secure on-campus housing, or would prefer to live off-campus, should check out one of the following off-campus housing resources:

Housing Tours
Cal Poly's residence halls are locked 24/7. Access into each hall is by residents using their keys. For the security of students living in the halls, campus tours do not include the residence halls, EXCEPT during Cal Poly's OPEN HOUSE and during the traditional high school spring breaks (Spring Break Tours) when Cal Poly's Housing Office conducts guided tours of the on-campus housing halls and apartments.
