Students living on-campus, in either a residence hall or the Cerro Vista apartment community, have the opportunity to become involved in the decisions and planning that occur within their living community. Students living in the Residence Halls can be part of the leadership forum by participating in the Residence Hall Council of their hall and students living in the Cerro Vista Apartments can participate in Community Council. Both the Residence Hall Council and the Apartment Community Council are formed shortly after the Summer Quarter begins and again after the beginning of Fall Quarter. Participation is a great way to get directly involved in activities and events happening within their own living community. Students involved in these councils have the opportunity to meet other student leaders living within their community, and the campus wide community, by participating in program planning and resolving student issues and concerns. Participation provides the opportunity to develop leadership skills and attend several leadership development retreats that are offered throughout the Academic Year. Students who participate in these councils find it to be a great way to meet new people and build friendships while making an impact to enhance the quality of both their living and campus community. Interhall Council (IHC) is the representative body for Cal Poly's 3,600 residents. IHC's primary responsibility is being the advocate for the residents to the Housing and Residential Life Department, Campus Dining, Associated Students Inc. (ASI), and Cal Poly Administration. Additionally, IHC creates social programming, maintains/adjusts the activity funds that are charged as a part of every resident's rent (for 2006-2007, this amount is $15.00), and oversees leadership through individual Hall/Community Councils.
