What to Bring and What NOT to Bring (pdf)
The apartments are located on a steep hillside, therefore on move-in day, you will need to bring a "hand truck" or dolly and bungee cords to assist in moving your belongings from your car to your room. Please come prepared for stairs (sensible shoes, dolly to assist in moving your belongings from your car to your room). Students are not allowed to bring personal furniture into on-campus housing apartments (couches, chairs, futons, etc.). Due to space constraints and noise concerns, large free standing units, large stereo speakers, etc., need to be left at home. Free standing storage units over 48" tall are not allowed. Note: All furniture that is originally in the room must remain in that room.
Each single Bedroom is furnished with the following items for each resident:

Each Kitchen is equipped with:
An electric range w/ceramic glass cook top, a microwave oven, a refrigerator, a garbage disposal, a recycle bin and waste basket, and a fire extinguisher. Please Note: Students living in on-campus apartments are not allowed to have personal refrigerators.

There is high speed internet access in each bedroom plus one port in the living room, along with a basic cable TV connection in each bedroom and in the common living area. There is a phone jack in each bedroom
Apartment Condition Inventory (ACI):
All apartment students must inspect their room and apartment upon move in and move out. Prior to move in the apartment staff inspected all rooms and apartments and completed an Apartment Condition Inventory (ACI). The ACI documents the condition of the room. If you have found issues in your apartment check with your CA or front desk to ensure these issues have been documented on the ACI. Any issues that have not been documented on the ACI can be charged to residents upon move-out.
Upon move in, all rooms and apartments are considered to be in good working order with no major maintenance issues. If there are issues in your apartment that require maintenance please complete a Maintenance Connection service request by logging into your my.calpoly.edu portal and look for the University Housing Service Requestor Channel on the Housing Tab to have these issues resolved.
Loft Policy:
Due to safety concerns; lofts, raised beds, and free-standing storage units, or bookcases taller than 48" are NOT ALLOWED in the apartments.
Laundry Facilities: Laundry facilities are available in each building ($1 to wash, $.75 to dry). A Laundry Card (debit card) is issued to each student when they check in.
Phones: One phone is provided in each apartment living room; each bedroom has a jack. Each apartment is assigned a phone number. Roommates may decide among themselves to bring an answering machine. Local calls and basic monthly service charges are included in the housing fees. To make long distance calls from on-campus, students can use: their personal cell phone, a phone company calling card*, a "pre-paid" long distance card*,
*Students can bring to campus a "pre-paid" long distance calling card which can be purchased from a convenience, grocery, drug store, or big box store (e.g., Target, WalMart, Costco, Kmart, etc.). Phone companies will often provide customers with calling cards that can be billed to the student's permanent home phone number.
For answers to questions about the telephone system, long distance calls and services provided in the on-campus housing rooms, please contact Cal Poly's ITS (Information Technology Services) desk at 756-7000 (option 2) or go to ITS Service Desk and select "Telephone Support." ITS can also provide information about cellular service providers in the San Luis Obispo area that may offer discounts and other incentives to Cal Poly students.
Computer Network Connectivity: High-speed connection to Cal Poly data network and the Internet.
Computers must have a 10/100Base-T Ethernet card installed.
Students must bring their own "twisted pair network cable" to connect the computer to the assigned in-room data wall jack.
To protect the on-campus computing network, residents will be required to login and go through a mandatory ResNet Pre-Check before gaining network access.
For more information regarding the above procedure and computer hardware requirements, click on Computing.
Student Employment: Many types of jobs are available in the Housing Department and throughout campus. Housing hires over 100 student workers annually. Go to About University Housing for more information.
If you are planning on working on campus, please be prepared to locate your original* Social Security Card and present a valid picture ID. Per Federal Regulations for CSU employment, original Social Security cards must be presented upon employment (*Please note: copies/faxes cannot be accepted).
