Stationary barbecues are located in the patio area of each South Mountain Hall.
There are five large, portable barbecues that can be checked out for special events. Call the Housing Services office (756-1587) to confirm availability. The large barbecues can be reserved by processing an Event Authorization form through Residential Life & Education. Event Authorization forms may be obtained at your hall or apartment front desk, from your Coordinator of Student Development (CSD), or from the Residential Life & Education office. Please reserve at least five (5) days in advance to allow for scheduling and delivery.
Students have a choice to view television programs via computer or “digital-ready” television. Students need to provide their own computer, computer cable, TV and/or coaxial cable. When connected to the campus Internet system, students will log in via the provider website: watch.philo.com. Individual Philo Edu log-in information is provided at move-in. Each student may utilize the recording capabilities offered through the Philo Edu website for up to 20 hours of independent recording.
Every room is equipped with “digital-ready” cable television access. The television must be “digital-ready” to receive the digital signal. Older televisions may require a digital conversion box, which students need to provide. No exterior antennas, aerials, satellite dishes, signs, wires, or similar objects are to be attached or erected in the apartment complex. Residents may report cable problems or request service by submitting an online service request or by contacting their front desk.
Wireless access is available throughout campus housing in all rooms, apartments, study rooms and lounges. You are required to comply with the Acceptable Use Policy at all times. Personal routers are not permitted. Residential connectivity has unique requirements for your computer. Please refer to the ResNet New Resident Information page for more information on connecting the Cal Poly network.
The Housing Services Custodial Staff are the reason Cal Poly residence halls and apartments are clean and well maintained. They are responsible to keep the facilities clean and sanitary for the residents. The custodians are kept busy eight hours a day, five days a week, as well as sixteen hours for the weekend crew. Their duties include scrubbing, vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, shampooing, and other essential tasks that are hard work.
The custodians must work harder and longer when residents do not pick up after themselves. The custodians must clean up excess messes in addition to their regular duties. In situations such as these, charges will be assessed. Spilled popcorn and drinks in hallways and lounges, stacked furniture, or a trashed lounge can be expensive.
Housing Services provides all key control and tracking for the residence halls and apartments, including the programming of the electronic locks and access cards.
There are laundry rooms throughout the residence halls and apartment complexes and is included as part of your stay here. Washers and dryers are available for use by campus residents only. The locations of washers and dryers in Poly Canyon Village and Cerro Vista may be found in the “Apartment Guide” located in your kitchen area. If a machine malfunction occurs, please notify the front desk staff of the machine number.
University Housing assumes no responsibility for items left in laundry rooms. Residents are responsible for removing their laundry from the laundry rooms in a timely manner. Laundry that remains in the laundry room will be removed by the custodial staff and taken to the front desk lost and found. If the property is not claimed after a week, staff will turn items over to university lost and found located at Facility Services.
media:scape is furniture and technology merged to help students collaborate, share ideas and learn more effectively. Through the integration of furniture and technology, media:scape is reshaping the way students collaborate in a connected world.
media:scape boosts collaboration across the table or across the globe by transforming classrooms, libraries or social spaces, connecting students, and sharing information seamlessly in dynamic new ways.
Most collaborative spaces today support leader-led presentations where information is controlled and shared by one person at a time. media:scape removes these barriers and democratizes how people access and share information by allowing all participants to contribute their ideas equally, quickly and seamlessly.
How it works
media:scape was designed for a “walk-up and connect” experience:
Open the media well and remove a Puck™
Connect the Puck™ to your laptop
Share what's on your laptop by pressing the Puck™
Open. Connect. Share. (opens youtube video)
Billiard, foosball, and ping pong tables are provided in the lounges in South Mountain, Sierra Madre and Yosemite Hall, as well as the Cerro Vista and Poly Canyon Village Community buildings for the enjoyment of the residents. Each front desk is equipped with billiard cues and a rack, set of cue balls and tray, chalk; foosball balls; ping-pong paddles and balls; volleyball net and ball; football, basketball, soccer ball; and baseball bats and balls.
New recreational equipment will be delivered to the front desks prior to Fall Quarter opening. Housing & Business Services maintains the tables and equipment; please report any problems or request replacement items through a Service Request procedures outlined above in the Requests for Maintenance and/or Repairs section.
Do not move the billiard tables; the slate will crack if the tables are not moved with extreme caution; the cost to repair is approximately $250. If you need the table moved from its normal location, prepare and submit an Event Authorization form.
Housing Services coordinates all recycling efforts for the residence halls and apartments. Recycling bins are located outside of each building for co-mingled aluminum, plastic, glass, and paper. Recycling is good for the environment and helps reduce the amount of trash removed from the campus to our local landfill.
Trash is picked up from the buildings daily Monday through Saturday after 9:00 a.m.
