Freshman Live-On Requirement | 2016-17
Freshmen who live on campus have the opportunity to participate in programmatic activities which provide a strong foundation and help students succeed. At Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, all admitted, first-time freshmen will be required to live on campus for their first year to ensure everyone receives the benefit of the campus housing experience. Housing for freshmen is in traditional residence halls with double and triple rooms, as well as private bedrooms, shared bedrooms and double suites in the campus apartments.
All first-time freshmen are required to submit a housing intent, indicating their plans to apply for campus housing. Access to the housing intent and online application is granted within 24-48 hours of a student accepting Cal Poly's offer of admission, once the application opens mid-January for students admitted early decision and mid-March for students admitted Regular Decision. Assignments for housing are made on a first-come, first-served basis, based on the date that housing is secured. In order to secure housing, applicants must submit their online housing application, Housing License Agreement and initial housing payment.
Exemptions from the residential requirement will be considered based upon the Freshman On-Campus Living Exemption Policy.
