Current first-year students who are part of our required two-year housing program can begin signing up for next year's housing.

• Choose one Residential Learning Community (RLC). Keep in mind, potential roommates must have the same RLC. Explore 2024-25 RLC options. >>
• Connect with the Disability Resource Center (DRC) for any necessary accommodations.
• Let us know if you prefer to live a room that is Queer-affirming, which goes beyond “acceptance,” and is an environment where students who identify as Queer are fully welcomed in a supportive community. Housing expects that all residents will create an inclusive room for students regardless of identity. If you identify as Queer and want further support, the Pride Center can be reached here. 

Initial Housing Interest List Opens
All other (non-required) students

Continuing students who do not have a two-year housing requirement can add their names to our initial interest list for next year's housing. 

• As we anticipate a high demand for available spaces, the interest list will initially open for a limited timeframe — seven days. 
  The number of spaces depends on new student enrollment, the availability and occupancy level of facilities, the number of approved exemption requests, and cancelations among other factors.
• Sign-ups open at 9 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 15 and close at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
• Spaces from this initial list are awarded by lottery, so your chances of securing housing aren't based on when you sign up between these dates.
• Those offered who do not complete the housing application will be removed from the interest list.

Housing Offers Begin by Lottery
All other (non-required) students
Students on the initial interest list begin receiving housing offers. 

• Offers are made by lottery for available spaces. Offers will be sent to the student's Cal Poly email address. Check your email daily. Respond within 48 hours, as specified in the offer. 

• Those offered who do not complete the housing application will be removed from the interest list. Students may add themselves back on the interest list at any time.

If you are selected to sign up: 

• Choose one Residential Learning Community (RLC). Keep in mind that potential roommates must have the same RLC. Explore 2024-25 RLC options. >>

• Specify who you would prefer to share an apartment with:
  Peers share the same gender, peers who identify as any gender, peers who identify as LGBTQIA+ regardless of gender identity, peers who identify as LGBTQIA+ and are the same gender identity, peers who identify as LGBTQIA+ and as trans or binary.

• Connect with the Disability Resource Center (DRC) for any necessary accommodations.

Second Interest List opens at 9 a.m.

• Spaces will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Add Roommates
All students in required and non-required groups who have signed up for housing can add up to three roommates.

• Roommate groups are optional. You can sign up as an individual, then select into an apartment with other groups or individuals during room selection. 

• Request roommates in the housing application. Only students who have completed the application are searchable. Your roommate(s) must confirm your request.

• Your roommates' RLCs must match. It's also helpful if apartment preferences match.

• The vast majority of apartments are four-bedroom, four-person apartments. Five- and six-person apartments are limited in number. We cannot guarantee that separate roommate groups will be able to assign into the same apartment or have the same appointment day and/or time. Please keep your options open and communicate openly about alternatives with others who you hope to live with.

Final Day to Edit Application Preferences

Students who completed their housing application by March 15 will be emailed an appointment date and time to select your space. Appointments are determined by lottery and group size and may not be the same as others in your roommate group. Four-person groups will assign before smaller groups and individuals. 
 

• Viewable spaces are based on your RLC preference, which you select in the housing app.

• Since some communities fill quickly, preferences are not guaranteed. If your preferred community or apartment type fills, you will see other available spaces.

• The vast majority of apartments are four-bedroom, four-person apartments. Five- and six-person apartments are limited in number. We cannot guarantee that separate roommate groups will be able to assign into the same apartment or have the same appointment day and/or time. Please keep your options open and communicate openly about alternatives with others who you hope to live with.

Change Rooms

Individuals can change rooms in the Housing Portal, based on availability. Students cannot change rooms for other individuals or their roommate group.

Room Selection

Individuals that did not complete their application by March 15 may now participate in room selection in the Housing Portal.

Last Day to Cancel Housing

Cancel with a 30-day ensures you avoid fees for lack of notice. The $500 initial payment is non-refundable if you cancel to live off-campus.
